VMware has made a triple leadership change within Asia, as the software vendor prepares for its next phase of growth across the region.

The South East Asia and Korea (SEAK) region has appointed Sanjay Deshmukh as vice president and general of the territory, with Ron Goh now assuming the role of vice president and advisor.

Effective in May, David Wakeman, senior director of end-user computing (EUC) across Asia Pacific and Japan succeeds Deshmukh as the new leader of the division.

The triple management change is designed to provide the necessary leadership in a region undergoing rapid levels of digital transformation.

“The new leadership team in our SEAK and EUC business in APJ represents our strong commitment to the region and propelling our business forward,” VMware senior vice president and general manager of APJ, Duncan Hewett, said.

“I am confident that our newly appointed leaders will further our leadership in virtualisation in the region.”

Drawing on 30 years of industry experience, Goh will now serve in an advisory role to support the SEAK business.

“In these years, Ron has helped drive our business in SEAK, integrated our business in South Korea and driven exponential growth in nascent markets,” Hewett added. “I am glad that he will continue to support the business and serve as a strategic advisor to our leadership team.”

Succeeding Goh will be Deshmukh, who comes with prior experience in the APJ region, leading VMware’s EUC efforts.

“Sanjay has been closely associated in the industry as an EUC leader and understands the diversity of our business in the region,” Hewett said.

“He is an outstanding leader who has worked across both country-wide and regional roles in the past, is adaptive to new markets and capable of bringing tremendous passion to his team.”

Going forward, Deshmukh, who draws on more than 25 years of IT experience, will now be responsible for the vendor’s corporate vision, while strengthening market positions across the region.

“Enterprises and IT leaders are rapidly moving toward digitalisation and transforming their businesses through the implementation of new IT strategies that will yield tangible business success in an increasingly competitive landscape,” Deshmukh added.

“I am very excited to take on the leadership of VMware’s SEAK business to further strengthen our growth across the region, support our customers and partners in their digital transformation efforts and empower businesses to succeed in the digital economy.”

Succeeding Deshmukh’s in the APJ region will be Wakeman, who will be appointed senior director of EUC across APJ.

Wakeman comes with 15 years experience in end-user IT and will help the company drive growth across growing cloud and mobility markets.

“With Sanjay taking on the leadership of the SEAK business, we have an opportunity to appoint David as the new EUC leader,” Hewett added.

“David has been with us for more than 10 years and is a phenomenal leader with an extensive background across the EUC product portfolio. I look forward to David’s leadership in driving success for our EUC business across APJ.”
