Salesforce strikes agency alliance, provides tech pipeline for Singapore partners

Initiative aims to place 50 individuals for employment in Singapore

Salesforce has entered into partnership with Workforce Singapore (WSG), Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) of Singapore, and business enablement platform SGTech with the purpose of cultivating a pipeline of ICT professionals for partners and customers locally.

The initiative aims to leverage the professional conversion programme for Salesforce platform professionals in Singapore, under the TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA).

Specifically, the aim is to future-proof the careers of PMETs, including mid-career switchers and individuals over 40 years old, and train them for in-demand technology roles.

"Our jobs are being redefined as technologies continue to evolve rapidly,” said Renzo Taal, senior vice president of APAC at Salesforce.

“As Singapore advances into Industry 4.0, a growth mindset and the courage to learn, unlearn and re-learn the skills of the future will be critical for the Singapore workforce.

“Salesforce skills and knowledge are in high demand. Our ecosystem alone will create more than 11,000 jobs by 2022 in Singapore and everyone is empowered to future-proof their careers and transform themselves into a Worker 4.0 with the PCP and Trailhead."

Furthermore, it is expected that the Salesforce Economy will generate more than 11,000 (direct and indirect) jobs in Singapore and drive US$2.9 billion (SG$4 billion) in business revenue between 2016 and 2022, according to IDC findings.

There are an estimated 300,000 jobs postings globally that directly require Salesforce-related skills, including roles under the professional conversion programme such as administrator, sales cloud consultant, service cloud consultant, marketing cloud specialist and platform developer.

The professional conversion programme, which is part of the TeSA initiative to build and develop a skilled Information and Communications Technology (ICT) workforce in Singapore, operates under the place-and-train model, where participating companies will employ trainees before the commencement of the professional conversion programme.

Under this programme, Salesforce-facilitated classroom training combined with structured on-the-job training by the employer over a six-month period will allow participants to gain new capabilities and knowledge of the Salesforce platform and ecosystem.

As a result, the aim is to allow them to move into a new work function or switch careers in industries with a burgeoning demand for talent, such as finance, healthcare and technology.

“ICT is transforming and changing the way businesses operate,” said Julia Ng, group director of enterprise development group at WSG. “With more widespread adoption of digitalisation, employers will face increased competition in hiring tech talent.

"WSG is therefore happy to collaborate with technology leaders like Salesforce under the professional conversion programme to help mid-career PMETs gain meaningful employment in the sector and be trained in cloud-based technologies.

“Such structured on-the-job training provides jobseekers with a practical approach toward gaining valuable practical skills, and this is a model that we encourage employers to consider when looking to fulfil their manpower needs."

Under the programme, participants will earn skills-based credentials on Trailhead, a free gamified online learning platform by Salesforce that enables anyone to learn the skills required to land a job in the Salesforce ecosystem and wider technology industry.

Furthermore, the professional conversion programme aims to place 50 individuals for employment with companies in Singapore over the next year.

“Our ICT professionals remain at the heart of Singapore’s growth as a digital economy,” said Howie Lau, chief industry development officer at IMDA. “The TeSA initiative provides ICT training opportunities and enables Singaporeans to remain relevant in today’s digital workforce.

"To date, more than 50,000 training places have been taken up or committed under TeSA.

"Through our collaboration with Salesforce, WSG and SGTech, our professionals, including mid-career workers, can take up in-demand ICT roles and seize exciting new career prospects."

The first round of training began in September 2018 under the professional conversion programme with Salesforce partners such as intelligent automation platform provider Workato and solutions provider Crimson Works participating.

“The Salesforce professional conversion programme has been instrumental in scaling our operations in Singapore,” said Allan Teng, managing director of APJ at Workato. “It has helped us find and train many local candidates for our open positions very quickly.

“This is made possible by opening many of our positions to candidates with experience from other industries and putting them through a combination of structured and on-the-job training that is subsidised by the government to help them get ready for a career switch into technology."
