Alibaba Cloud has launched its second data centre in Indonesia, effectively doubling the provider's local capacity.
The tech giant has also signed a distribution agreement with PT IndoInternet, offering an additional channel for its full range of cloud computing products and services to the rapidly growing Indonesian market.

The Internet Champion Global Accelerator Program was also revealed, which aims to empower local enterprises and talents, contributing towards Indonesia’s 2020 Go Digital Vision.
“With better connectivity and a fast-growing digital community, the Indonesian market presents enormous opportunities to both local and global enterprises,” said Leon Chen, general manager of Singapore and Indonesia at Alibaba Cloud.
“By doubling our data centre capacity and launching the Internet Champion Global Accelerator Program in Indonesia, we aim to further build the cloud ecosystem and talent pool for Indonesia."
The opening of the provider’s second data centre comes only 10 month after the launch of its first Indonesian data centre, which aim to provide high availability and strengthen disaster recovery capabilities, allowing customers to deploy mission-critical workloads in multiple availability zones and switch over quickly.
Alibaba Cloud now has 55 availability zones across 19 regions worldwide and in addition to Indonesia, data centres in Singapore and Malaysia.
“The Digital Economy Vision of Indonesia sets out a clear direction for our future development,” said H.E. Rudiantara, Minister of Communications and Information of Indonesia.
“Our goal is to foster new decacorn and unicorn, accelerate the growth of at least 1,000 startups, and help at least eight million people in the traditional farming and fishing industries, as well as SMEs, to go digital."
The two centres will now offer a ride range of products and services to the local and regional market including elastic computing capability, database service, networking, storage, security, and middleware, to solutions that address vertical industry challenges.
Furthermore, with strong demand for big data and analytic solutions from Indonesian enterprises, Alibaba Cloud has already launched machine learning for artificial intelligence and later this month, will offer elastic search to provide real-time search, data analysis, and visualisation capabilities.
The vendor has also launched Smart Access Gateway (SAG), an SD-WAN solution to provide a one-stop cloud connectivity solution for public cloud and hybrid cloud environments.
Local training, mentorship, and venture capital opportunities to enterprises and professionals will also be provided through the launch of the Internet Champion Global Accelerator Program.
Following its initial launch in Indonesia, the program will gradually roll out to other global markets.
In addition to its new distributor agreement with PT IndoInternet, the provider continues to strengthen its local channel network with partners such as PT Blue Power Technology and PT Sistech Kharisma.
