DXC Technology has launched a security operations centre (SOC) in Malaysia catering to both regional and international clients.
The new centre will adopt DXC’s next generation intelligent security operations capability enabling advanced analytics, digital forensics, investigations and incident response and tailored solutions to protect the digital enterprise.
Located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the new centre aims to facilitate enhanced security for regional enterprises, providing improved visibility, correlation and response to security threats and vulnerabilities through the integration of advanced security analytics across information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT).
“While digital transformation delivers business value, it can also introduce security risks,” said Mark Hughes, senior vice president and general manager for security at DXC Technology.
“DXC Security’s end-to-end portfolio of advisory services and managed security helps clients draw out a competitive niche by building security into the fabric of applications, infrastructure and culture to help enable large-scale digital change,” he added.
The addition of an SOC in Malaysia adds to the already growing number of SOCs globally, now more than a dozen, all integrated as part of the firm’s managed security services offerings, in line with increased security risks for enterprises.
Each SOC provides 24/7 cyber threat detection and response services to clients in industries such as financial services, travel and transportation, and media and entertainment.
Singapore and Southeast Asia more generally, has seen an increased security threat profile, and is now one of the most targeted regions in the world, with extortion attacks, hardware vulnerabilities and increased international tension seen as key security concerns to look out for in 2019, according to DXC’s “top 10 security trends for 2019.”
Furthermore, the lack of regional talent is a significant challenge for enterprises and security operations across Southeast Asia. The development and acquisition of skilled cyber security professionals across the region can be a challenge for regional enterprises.

The firm makes extensive use of machine learning and artificial intelligence within its SOCs to improve its security posture, complementing the in-house security professionals working for the organisation with skills in identity and access management, data loss prevention, security device management, digital forensics, threat intelligence, threat monitoring and incident response.

In lights of the increased security threats across the region, organisations have been launching local SOCs, such as regional distributor Innovix who opened an SOC in Singapore in collaboration with Adura and SK InfoSec. CenturyLink also opened an SOC in 2019, located in Singapore, its eighth globally, in response to the growing need for regional enterprises to protect their data from growing regional threats.
