D2L Appoints Mark Yaxley as Regional Director for Australia and New Zealand

Will help schools, higher education and companies deliver modern learning experiences

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA—September 25, 2018 — D2L, a global learning technology leader, has appointed Mark Yaxley as Regional Director for Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) to help local K-12 schools, higher education and companies deliver valuable learning and training experiences in the evolving digital economy.

Yaxley will execute on D2L’s global mission to transform the way the world learns – through a digital learning system that is easy to use, flexible and smart.

“Education and training must be made accessible to everyone, at any stage or walk of life. To do this, our focus is to empower educators’ adoption of pedagogies to engage learners in the ways learners want to learn, building education so there are no barriers to progression,” said Yaxley. “We are driven by learner needs and building modern learning experiences to deliver results in engagement, outcomes, and retention.

“Lifelong learning starts from kindergarden, and transitioned right through to every person’s career, whether it is critical engagement in the early years, heading back to university later in life, or ongoing professional development within the workforce. In doing so, learning becomes more than just an institutional practice; it evolves into a pattern of behavior, a way of life, enriching the individual, their family, and the community at large.”

The adoption of lifelong learning is especially critical; we know that 65 per cent of today’s school children are expected to graduate into jobs that do not exist today, and automation will drive 375 million workers to switch occupational categories by 2030.

To help D2L’s customers adapt to these big changes, Yaxley’s short-term objectives include a significant business expansion across all sectors – K-12, higher education and corporate – further aligning the D2L Brightspace Learning Management System (LMS) to key national frameworks for education and training, helping educators build courses and learner-led programs that can deliver better experiences, better outcomes.

Yaxley becomes Regional Director A/NZ after five years with D2L, having held senior roles with the company at both A/NZ and Asia-Pacific levels. His experience outside D2L includes 25 years’ experience on both sides of the education industry, including leadership positions in Ed-Tech at YourTutor and Etech Group, following a dozen years in teaching, training and curriculum development.

“Mark has spent more than a decade guiding A/NZ’s education institutions and enterprises in the transformation of their learning strategies,” said John Baker, Chief Executive Officer at D2L. “His history of firsthand engagement with organisations in the region helps give us the deep insight we need to continue evolving our learning platform to generate real outcomes for learners of all ages and practices.”
